Days left to recharter: 51
Remember that your unit's recharter is due on December 1st. That gives us a month to process it so your unit's registration doesn't expire on December 31st. When your unit's registration expires, your unit ceases to exist and is not authorized to conduct the Scouting program. So log into Internet Rechartering, finish that roster, get your signatures, and deliver it! Let me know if you have any questions.

Ko Olina district news: University of Scouting, film screening, and more

Hey Ko Olina leaders,
I'm really pumped for all that's going on in Scouting. As I write this, I'm getting ready to go to the second session of Cuboree, where I'm looking forward to s'mores, astronomy, and the Ka'a'awa Valley hike. On November 4-6 is one of our west side fall camporees--Back in Time! (Sign up here!) I just attended a court of honor for Eagle Scout Reagan Nelson from Troop 316, and I've been working on some exciting new opportunities to expad Scouting into Ko Olina communities.

Next week will be ourRoundtable at the Kalaeloa LDS chapel. It's on Thursday, October 13 at 7 PM. There will be training for Boy Scout and Cub Scout leaders, and you'll get to network with the great people who make Scouting happen in our district. Make sure someone from your unit is able to attend!
The University of Scouting on Saturday November 5th at Damien School will be an action packed, fun-filled day of supplemental Scout Leader training for both adults and youth. It is offered once a year to provide knowledge, ideas, tools and resources which helps adult leaders, volunteers and  Scouts in their Scouting positions.

The theme this year is “Be a Hero: Achieve Your Greatness”. Adult Scout leaders are frequently seen as heroes by the youth they serve. Heroes are people who are admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Striving to achieve excellence through continual learning is one of the ways we become heroes.

The University of Scouting will include Den Chief Training, Cub Scout Den Leader Position-Specific Training, Cubmaster & Assistant Cubmaster Position-Specific Training, Scoutmaster & Assistant Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training, Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops, Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews, Youth Protection Training and 77 other classes for all levels and positions in Scouting.

For more information and to register, see the University of Scouting page at

Service Opportunities
St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Aiea is looking for older Scout volunteers to help with a feeding outreach, providing meals to those in need every 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Volunteers will meet at the church at 4:15 PM and arrive back by 6:00. The church will provide transportation to and from the outreach location at Blaisdell Park. The church is asking for 2-3 volunteers each time; upcoming dates are October 11 and 25. If your unit can help out, please contact Keane Akao atkeane.akao@ecwo.org or 380-6190.
Be a hero by enhancing your training with University of Scouting! Who knows, you might end up taking a class with or by your DE!
Silver Beaver award nominations are due at the end of this month. The Silver Beaver is the highest award a council can give a volunteer, and it reflects a dedication to Scouting that goes beyond working with a single district. If you have a Scouter you'd like to nominate for the Silver Beaver, you can fill out or print the form here, and email or deliver it to me.
The Ewa Battlefield Commemoration is holding a free screening of the classic film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" on Wednesday, October 12 at 11 AM for Scouts and other special groups. It's fall break for public schools, so plan to head down with your Scouts to Consolidated Theaters at Ka Makana Ali'i in Kapolei to see this epic film! This film is the closest to the real December 7, 1941 attack that most people will ever see. A winner of numerous Academy Award nominations, the film is highly rated by historians and movie fans as a great classic. To reserve your free tickets, contact John Bond at ewabond@gmail.com.
This month's Outdoor Leader Skills training for Boy Scout and Webelos leaders is in Mililani. This training runs from 6 PM on Friday the 21st to 6 PM on Saturday the 22nd.
