Ko Olina District News

Aloha volunteers!
I'd like to give a big mahalo to the following units for completing the recharter process. If your unit is still working on it, give me a call at 724-8747 to let me know how things are going and see how I can help!

Post 2043, Troop 122, Troop 50, Pack 3426, Unit 162, Unit 267, and Pack 126

This information lives on our Ko Olina district web page. And it's updated once per month or more, so check whenever you're looking for answers or upcoming events between editions of this newsletter.
Want a free smoothie? And a chance to talk story with me? Come to my office hours! It's on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at HulaShake at Kapolei Shopping Center from 4 to 6 PM. That's the 5th and 19th this month. You can turn in paperwork, talk about your unit, or ask me about my trip to India! And I'll buy coffee for anyone who comes!
Tickets are now on sale for the Aloha Council 2017 recognition dinner! Come join us on February 3rd at 6:15 PM to celebrate Ko Olina district Scouter Karen Forsythe as she earns the Silver Beaver award, the highest award given by any Scout council to a volunteer. The dinner is only $35 and will take place at the Pagoda Hotel; register at https://scoutingevent.com/104-CRD2017 by January 31st!
Now lest we confuse things, the Komohana arearecognition dinner will also take place this spring--on April 21. This is for just the west side, and will include more specific awards that recognize individual people and units. The District Awards of Merit are presented on this date, as well as cool awards like Boy Scout of the Year and Cubmaster of the Year. Registration isn't up online yet, but keep April 21st open!
See you at Roundtable?

Roundtable is a time of training and fellowship for all district leaders, at the Kalaeloa LDS Chapel at 2074 Lauwiliwili St. in Kapolei. The date is January 12 at 7 PM. See you there!

I also want to give a shout-out to the units who earned Journey to Excellence awards in 2016!

Silver: Troop & Pack 50
Bronze: Pack 267

Earning the bronze, silver, or gold JTE ribbon is a sure sign of a thriving unit--these units have completed the worksheet to prove that their budget, advancement, recruitment, and camping efforts are worthy of the Journey to Excellence patch and ribbon. If your unit wants to earn one of these awards, it's not too late. Just download the form for Explorer postsTroopsPacksCrewsTeams, or Ships and email to me.
Troop 316 from Ewa Beach is making and selling chuck boxes for any troops that need one. They look similar to the one pictured. The troop provides them for $50, which is less than their cost to produce. If you want to get one of these, contact committee chair Kim Jacobson at kimjake70@gmail.com.
