Outdoor Programs

The camping and outdoor program is an exciting and essential element of the Boy Scouts of America. Camping and outdoor program activities will deliver adventure, challenge, teamwork opportunities, confidence building, fun, and other new and exciting experiences. Camping and outdoor program activities will lead to self-reliance, self-confidence, and leadership, and will enhance the traditional aims of Scouting: citizenship, character development, and mental and physical fitness consistent with the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Safe and successful camping and outdoor activities will entice youth to become members of the Scouting organization and benefit from its values and character-building activities.

Aloha Council is proud of the opportunities that are available for Scouts and adult leaders at our camps. Programs are offered for everyone from the first year camper to the skilled veteran in the areas of Aquatics, Shooting Sports, Handicraft, Nature and Scoutcraft. In addition to outstanding traditional Boy Scout resident camps for our local troops, Aloha Council offers youth the opportunity to serve on camp staff and enables them to utilize and develop their leadership skills.

The summer camp experience at Aloha Council camps are geared to reach Scouts and leaders in several ways:
For Each Boy: There are chances for advancement, to try new things and to receive recognition for what he has done.
For Buddies: Our camps have made the buddy system more than just a safety precaution; it is a way boys can learn together with one or two friends.
For Patrols: There are activities that let patrols work together to gain confidence and leadership skills that will make them a stronger team back home.
For Troops: There’s recognition and events to bring Scouts, their buddies, and patrols together as one unit.
Total Camp Experience: There is the chance to work with other troops and to make a contribution to the total camp experience.
Service Projects: A list of service projects for camp will be available from the camp commissioner and ecology conservation director. Each unit is encouraged to complete a service project while in camp.
Program Opportunities: The purpose of camp is to help the Scoutmaster provide a quality outdoor experience for his troop. Keep in mind that the camp program supplements the troop program-not replaces it. Our aim is to help the Scoutmaster in working with his patrol leader council to plan a resident camp program that meets the needs and characteristics of his troop.

Learning by doing is a hallmark of outdoor education. Unit meetings offer information and knowledge used on outdoor adventures. A leader may describe and demonstrate a Scouting skill at a meeting, but the way Scouts truly learn an outdoor skill is to do it themselves on a unit outing.Health and wellness is also a part of the outdoor experience. As Scouts hike, paddle, climb, bike, or ride, their muscles become toned and their aerobic capacity increases. When they work as a patrol to plan menus for their outings, they learn to purchase cost-effective ingredients to prepare flavorful and nutritious meals.
With this in mind, take some time to browse the many camping venues that the National Boy Scout organization offers.
